The Golden Donkey Awards were created in 1982 by then political consultants Rick and John Rendon as a way to pay recognition to the campaign workers and operatives that toiled on behalf of Democratic candidates in Massachusetts. The Golden Donkey Awards were a fixture in Massachusetts politics for nearly ten years (1982 to 1991).
